History

These guys started something.

In the 1980's, D&C became the first duo with enough grunt to play several band-sized gigs per week to a huge Melbourne following. They quickly and instinctively came up with a sound and repertoire which, in many ways, set the standard.

Together, Terry Dean and Gary Carruthers have always managed to sound uncannily like a full band pumping out an inspired mix of country-rock, rhythm & blues music, woven into a sack of (mostly) 60's and 70's party pop songs, and much more.
From the beginning, they chose not to lean on a songlist, preferring instinct and spontaneity to keep things exciting for both themselves and the audience. Throw in a really good live sound (organic, no artificial additives) and you've got a recipe for endless pub gigs, tours, private parties, corporate functions, and so on.

The boys are also pretty handy on a variety of instruments including acoustic, electric and lap steel guitars, mandolin, banjo and dobro, which has seen them appear on several recordings and on stage with many other artists, especially in the country-rock-pop realm, such as Kasey Chambers and Troy Casser-Daley.

Dean & Carruthers have never played and sounded better than they do today.
